FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
1. During a child's teenage years, those are the years that "the pressures to partcipate in drug and alcohol abuse are the highest."
2. Some research has shown that "27% of teenagers has misused some drug each month".
3, This website shows that "there are many reasons why people turn to drugs" but that there can be alternatives instead of taking drugs or using alcohol.
4. A lot of "teenagers fail to recognize the consequences" when they take drugs or alcohol, it can affect their life on a "cellular level" and even hurt their family.
5. Depending on how much the person is intoxicated on alcohol it can "take 3 days to 2 weeks" just to get it out of their system, which ca be very painful to the person.

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):
This website brings people together so they can educate teenagers and parents on how to help themselves and their child. This can give people alternatives and inform them on what happens when they do take drugs or alcohol. This website has a lot of links on their page to help people out at home too.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?
The purpose of this site is to educate people on drugs and alcohol and tries to help them see what can happen to teenagers if they do start to do something. There are sponsoring organizations that help with this site to get a better message to the world.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
The author does not gain anything from writing this website so there does seem like there is no attachment to it.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
There does seem like there is a bias opinion being formed but the author only wants people to realize that there are negative effects to doing drugs and alcohol.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
The author does not use any references so it does seem to take away from their credibilty.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?

I plan to use this source in my paper and also in my volunteer hourse of making a pamphlet with the alternatives that this website gave me.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
1. "Alcoholism and drugs can permanently damage the brain" of young teenagers which can affect them later on their life.
2. Since teenagers are more likely to get addicted, it is better to "treat them during this time of their life" since it is the most crucial time.
3. People usually have "underlying problems that must be addressed if they want to recover". This is why professors and doctors encourage group, peer discussions.
4. Some researchers think that "people who do not particiapte in drinking might not have enough friends to protect them from depression" and that it all relates to peer pressure.
5. In young adulthood, "substance abuse may be very common" and it affects the crucial time of self-development.

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):
This website shows and helps to instruct teenagers and parents on what is happening to them. They explain why some teenagers and young adults will use drugs and alcohol to form some kind of escape from a emotional problem. They give a step by step on what people should do if they are addicted and want help, plus also gives out the links/ phone numbers to actual rehab centers.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?
The author is not known in this artricle but the purpose of this site is to get people aware and educated on what is happening to drug and alcohol abusers. The CRC Health Group funds this site and it is said to be an "educational website".

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
The author does not gain anything from this besides to educate people on the problem. There does seem to be some lack of attachment since it does not include any personal stories, but straight facts.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
There seems to be no bias opinion because it displays both the negative and positive effects on people.

does the author cite refernces in the writing? do these add or take away from the credibility?
The author barely cite any references so it sort of adds to the credibility to the article.
How will you use this source in your project?
I plan to use this source on how people can learn how to "get over" an addiction from home and that there are resources out there for them that is only a click away.

FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
1. According to Laura Nissen, these scared straight programs "increases offending behavior" in young teens.
2. Since there is "lack of research on these programs" the office of juvenile and deliquency prevention "won't fund" it.
3. Since there is a show called "Beyond Scared Straight" on A&E, there will be "pressure to replicate it in communities across the country."
4. According to Laura Nissen, these programs will be a "waste of taxpayer dollars."
5. People want to "invest in the variety of treatment and supportive services."

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):

Laura Nissen is the program director of "Reclaiming Futures" and believes that these type of programs shown on tv will not work for the first time offenders. That it will actually make people more likely to commit a crime and will make people want to do crime. She believes that we are "moving backwards and not forward" with this situation.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?

The author is Laura Nissen is a speaker at multiple conventions and has researched exclusively on this topic. The purpose of this site though is to try to convince people how the "scared straight" programs do not work and that it is a waste of time.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?
She can be trying to gain recognition for her group, Reclaiming Futures, but she also truly believes that these programs do not work and that we should try to create more treatment centers instead to help people.

Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?
The author is favoring the side that these programs will not help teens in the future and instead, they will encourage to commit crime.

References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes the author does cite references from people that have done research on how data proves that teenagers commit more crimes. It does add to her credibility.

Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?
I plan to use this source on my paper for the opposing view and give my audience two views on this topic.
