SENIOR PROJECT PROPOSAL.

Proposed Topic in the form of an  Essential Question:
Will having programs that show the "real" consequences of drug/alcohol abuse help stop people from using it?
Rationale for Choice
What about this topic appeals to you? Why did you choose it?
Through personal experiences, I saw how drugs and alcohol can affect families and want to know when teenagers see the real problems this can cause, if they will choose to stop from making the same choices or if peer pressure is more than people can handle.

What do you already know about this subject?
I know that people use drugs or alcohol to either escape from something or fit in somewhere. I have some personal opinions about this and how it can affect people from one point of view.

What are you hoping to learn about the subject?
I want to learn if the programs that show the consequences of what can happen, will help teenagers see where their lives are heading. I also see what drugs and alcohol can do to a family from one point of view but I also want to know the teenagers that use these things point of view.

What are you most interested in regarding the topic?
I am most interested on why teenagers will still use drugs or alcohol when they already know the consequences that will happen to them and just try to understand why.

What potential risks or challenges do you foresee for your project?
What kind of research is there about this? How can I do my community service?

  1. Did you ever do the D.A.R.E. program in school? Do you think that it is effective in its goals? I like the perspective you're taking on a topic that has been done before.

The community service can be done by volunteering somewhere, bringing awareness to students, shadowing a police officer, etc.
